The luxury of a complete home remodel enabled a complete interior design redesign for this single family home in Danville, California.
The Mediterranean style home was built in the early 2000’s and was ripe for a new look inside and out to create a bright, comfortable and transitional living space for the family. No area has been left untouched and the stunning results of the redesign make it one of the the world’s best houses with inspiring rooms and cozy corners that can be integrated just as well into any style of living.
However, such a look is no accident. The family called in interior designer Nicole Salceda and her aptly named Bay Area design firm Eye for Pretty, who came up with a blueprint for the entire home. Nicole shares some of the most enviable spaces below.

The wide hallway with its sweepingly curved staircase is almost a separate room. who looks for hallway ideas Find inspiration here in the new hardwood floor, minimal stair railing and gallery wall on the upstairs landing.
The hallway opens up to the new kitchen, putting family – and their visitors – right at the heart of the home as soon as they step through the front door.
In progress
The family of five moved out of the home just before Covid hit. Designer Nicole describes how she and her team “remodeled the home over the course of the next six months while trying to manage crews and Covid restrictions. Every surface in the house has been touched. Floors, walls, cabinets, tiles, paint, etc.,” she says.
“Our goal was to upgrade the build to be both special and comfortable for this young family. Our clients had minimal input and really let us go with this project and bring our vision to their home. Their confidence throughout the project was tremendous,” she adds.

Nicole explains that her clients “wanted a space that would be comfortable for the family and not only beautiful but also functional.” The kitchen creates exactly this balance. kitchen ideas Notable features here are gray border cabinets, a soapstone counter and backsplash (including soapstone sink), and a white oak island with open shelving at the end. Integrated appliances and a calacatta quartz island top were also included, along with cognac leather counter stools.

The converted open plan family room has a dining area for informal dining and a family room beyond. At the heart of the dining area is a rustic blond wood table with a sleek white top, echoing the soapstone counters in the kitchen, along with rush dining chairs.

“For the family room,” says Nicole, “we kept things very functional and streamlined—we wanted a cozy, organic, and comfortable environment.”
living room ideas Worthwhile copies of this relaxed space include a luxurious sofa in the softest off-white with pastel cushions and a window seat that offers additional space for large family gatherings. A sleek black console table creates a separation between the seating and dining areas, a useful visual guide in an open space like this one.

A light wood coffee table taps into the natural elements in the dining area and kitchen that adjoin the open plan space. We love using a modular sofa to create a more intimate, enclosed space within the larger open layout.

The dedicated dining room forms part of the remodeled open plan living area but is tucked into a corner to create a cozy space for more formal dining, hence the more sophisticated scheme. Dining room ideas These include the dark wood round table that can be extended for larger parties, a gallery display of textured artwork, and the contemporary Roxy chandelier that really made a mark on the modernized space.

When family life gets a little too hectic, the formal living room is the perfect retreat. With a similarly sophisticated look to the dining room, key pieces include the vintage-look sofa and armchairs with a striking windowpane check. The black stripe Montauk rug, available from Nicole’s company Eye for Pretty, is the perfect choice to tie the scheme together.

The modern four poster bed gives a luxurious look without overwhelming the room. The light frame gives structure to the room without disturbing its tranquillity. If you are looking bedroom ideas, you can’t go wrong with a simple, neutral scheme – the perfect setting for a restful night’s sleep. We love the way the seascape painting blends seamlessly with the bed frame, a frame within a frame.

Marble finishes are at the top of our list of luxury bathroom ideas, and with the walls and countertops both given that luxurious finish, this bathroom is one to linger in. A freestanding bathtub with gray-blue sides is positioned under the window and the intricately tessellated tile floor adds another layer of interest.
