Airdrie House & Home: Get ready for spring at the Home & Lifestyle Show

Even if Mother Nature hasn’t necessarily approved of the annual calendar yet, it is indeed spring. As we wait for the calendar to catch up with her, now is the perfect time to start planning for warmer weather and all the things we hope to accomplish during the warmer months.

DIY is at the top of most of our lists. We spend more than half of our lives in our homes, so it’s important that we make it a comfortable, healthy, and happy place to retreat to. For many, decoration is important. Everything from window trim and paint to flooring and lighting enhances our surroundings and affects our mood. For others, it’s about making our homes healthier and safer. This could include cleaning carpets, ovens, or installing a home security system.

Of course, we don’t want to forget the exterior of our homes. Now it’s time to stain decks and fences, create a new landscaping plan so you can plant a few more veggies this year, and clean out gutters and garages. For those looking to create an oasis in the backyard, there may be a desire for a new gazebo or hot tub. By planning ahead, we can ensure that we prioritize and get everything done that we need to create our own happy place this year.

There are also young couples who want to move into their first apartment. They need to plan which neighborhood they want to live in. If they have young children, they may want to build or buy near a school campus. Do you have pets? Then the size of the farm can also influence where or what they buy.

All of these tasks that we want to do include the desire for free time. So now it’s time to plan your vacation, tune your car and change tires. Now it’s time to research potential vacation destinations. Of course, we also have to go through our closets. For some of us, two years of COVID-19 has added a few inches and pounds to our bodies. Is everything still comfortable? Do your clothes still convey the image you want?

That is indeed a lot of planning to get done over the next few weeks. With May just around the corner, the parking lots of local Home Hardware and Canadian Tire are already busy with DIYers buying gardening tools, paint, and anything else they need to get started. Planning so much in such a short amount of time can seem overwhelming.

This is what makes the Home & Lifestyle Show such a valuable event this weekend. In one place, in one weekend, there are ideas to improve our home, professionals are available to answer questions, make appointments or make suggestions. Everything from home maintenance and decoration to health and leisure products or services under one roof.

The Home & Lifestyle Show takes place this Saturday from 9am to 5pm and this Sunday from 10am to 4pm at Genesis Place in Airdrie. Join the rest of us as we all plan the homes we want to live in and the lifestyles we want to live.
