Ascension Parish Council discusses shifting communications funds to leisure | Wbactive

Ascension Parish Council and Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment debated an amendment to shift funds from the communications budget to leisure during the Nov. 17 meeting in Gonzales.

Councilor Aaron Lawler proposed allocating $325,000 from the Communications Department’s budget to spare time.

“Our communications budget has exploded,” said Lawler, whose district is in the Prairieville area. “It’s really gotten a lot bigger in the last two to three years than before.”

He asked if the communications department’s budget was necessary given the community’s recreational needs.

“We don’t have to photograph everything. People know we’re doing drainage work. People know that we do transport work. I’d rather put the money into action. Not in communication. I think that action is recreation,” Lawler said.
