Q: What are the latest home design trends? Which collection would you suggest for a modern look this season?

A: This season we really see a lot of sleek and minimal designs and our Virtuoso collection is perfect for this look. The clean lines really enhance any wardrobe while offering functionality. This makes each closet feel like its own boutique!

Q: Which closet accessory do you think is the most underrated? And why is it a “must have” in your closet?

A: I don’t know if it’s underrated because at California Closets we LOVE them… I don’t think ANY closet can do without a Garment Rod. You are so helpful! This multipurpose tool can be used for packing, to hang your dry cleaning, I use mine to steam ALL my clothes, and in smaller closets they can even be used in place of a long hanging rail; So double hanging can be maximized and still have room for a few clothes. They should be a must in every wardrobe!

Q: What finish colors, textures, and types of hardware are trending this spring?

A: Lighter colors and shades of gray are just as popular this spring as chic, muted hardware. We also see plenty of scoop face drawers instead of hardware for an even more minimalist look.

Q: Of course, when a wardrobe transitions from winter to spring, the spacing needs to change with the season. How can you customize the closet solution based on your needs?

A: The great thing about our cabinets is their flexibility! Our standard system features a full drilling pattern, allowing all shelves and bars to be moved and adjusted depending on what is being stored. It is also great for children’s closets as closets can change as children grow and their needs change over time.

Q: In your experience, would you suggest more hanging components or drawers for a handle cabinet that needs to maximize space?

A: Most of the time hanging is generally given priority over anything else. Of course, this can vary depending on the customer’s space and lifestyle, but in general, hanging should always have a home first. It’s easy to buy a dresser for extra storage, but nobody wants rolling shelves full of hanging clothes in their bedroom!

Q: When it comes to lighting, what are the strategically placed points to look for when designing a walk-in closet?

A: When using lighting, it should not only enhance the cabinet design aesthetically, but also be functional. I think the most important place to light is in the hanging sections. Most customers use the same black velvet Hangers and they can be so dark that all the clothes in the closet converge and are less visible. Our lighted bars are a great solution and can work in any space; even a small closet that may not be able to accommodate other lighting options. A well-lit closet can CHANGE LIFE!

Q: To keep up with modern design trends, would you suggest an open concept or cabinets with closed doors in a closet?

A: In terms of modern design, both work really well! An open concept like our Virtuoso collection looks really sharp and to the point. This system design allows the customer to see everything in the closet. When designing with doors, they can really elevate the look and help maintain customers’ wardrobes; mainly because they offer some protection from the elements and dust! Our more modern doors have an elegant aluminum frame with matt or glossy glass inserts in several different colors; or if the customer prefers to see everything, we can also make clear glass. We also offer sliding glass doors, which can look very elegant and stylish.

Q: What is your top spring cleaning tip that you recommend to your clients?

A: If you’re rearranging closets for the season, I recommend decluttering and reorganizing! Checking of all winter coats, boots, linens, etc. and then cleaning before putting into storage. That way they’ll be ready when it’s time to get them back out in the fall. Stacks to throw away, donate or keep also help to declutter your closet quickly. Finally, make sure everything has a home and implement organizational tools like drawer dividers, clear storage bins for visibility, and hooks that can make a world of difference in the overall look of your closet!
