Kandao’s Meeting Pro webcam makes meetings more inclusive and easier to follow | Wbactive

In recent years we’ve all had to adjust to being in front of the camera as travel to meetings has been severely restricted and will likely remain so as air travel has come under pressure due to climate change and companies look to reduce carbon footprints.

However, it can be difficult to hold long-distance meetings with one side crowded around a boardroom table. A wide-angle camera at the end of a room cannot convey people’s facial expressions and reactions. Sound pickup is another issue that can seriously affect the quality of a meeting.

For many businesses, the success of their business depends on the success of their video conferencing, but the current setup that many businesses are using has not kept pace. In recent years, VR and 3D imaging company Kandao has filled this gap with a range of award-winning 180° and 360° cameras that aim to make video conferencing more natural for remote participants, making them feel as if they were in space.

Kandao’s newest product is the Meeting Pro video conferencing camera. About the size of a water bottle, the Meeting Pro can stand in the center of a conference table and serve as a communications hub. Meeting Pro provides a full view of the room so remote participants can see everyone present. An intelligent tracking function highlights the current speaker while showing a close-up of the other participants. An array of microphones pointing in all directions ensures everyone can be heard no matter where they sit at the table.

Kandao delivers two variants of cameras. The entry-level Meeting S features a single 180° lens and is ideal for smaller meeting rooms of up to five people. The Meeting Pro has two lenses for a full 360°, making it suitable for rooms with up to 10 people or more.

Kandao Meeting S and Meeting Pro have their own Android operating system, so the cameras can be used as independent video conferencing terminals, eliminating the need for a laptop or computer to run the meeting. The user just needs to connect the Kandao camera to a meeting room TV or projector with an HDMI cable. The camera can be controlled with the supplied remote control or a USB keyboard and mouse. Airplay and Miracast are also supported to enable screen mirroring with Apple, Windows, iOS and Android devices.

Another clever feature built into the Kandao cameras is the 2-in-1 AI tracking technology. The system combines a 180°/360° 1080p HD view of the room with clear audio from eight omnidirectional microphones. The system intelligently recognizes the active speaker and switches quickly. The system’s response time is fast and mostly accurate, which many other desktop webcams fail to achieve.

The Kandao has a selection of preset display modes that can be selected using the supplied remote control. From focusing on just one speaker to showing a panorama of the entire room, there’s a view mode to suit almost any meeting style. Users can even create custom modes by zooming in and framing on the point of interest, such as B. a whiteboard or a product demonstration.

In addition to the built-in Android operating system, the Kandao cameras have a convenient Micro SD memory card slot for recording meetings for later playback or posting online for anyone unable to attend the meeting. There’s also a choice of Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections and even a USB-A slot for connecting a mouse and keyboard for using that built-in operating system.

When conducting an online meeting, privacy is essential to protect valuable intellectual property or ensure conversations are kept strictly confidential. Utilizing industry-leading data security practices, the Kandao cameras feature a lens cap to maintain privacy when not streaming or when the meeting needs a break to privately discuss a sensitive topic.

Both the Kandao Meeting S and Meeting Pro cameras have received a CES Innovation Award 2021, a reddot Design Award 2021 and an iF Design Award.

Verdict: More and more of these table meeting webcams are hitting the market. Logitech recently announced its Sight AI camera, which promises some incredible innovations. The beauty of the Kandao system is that the cameras have an integrated Android system, so they do not require a host laptop or desktop computer. Combining an all-round view with eight omnidirectional microphones, the Kandao AI system can switch between speakers quickly and precisely, so everyone can be seen and heard clearly. This is important for remote participants who feel isolated or locked out of meetings. The Kandao cameras work like a TV director, switching between views and speakers faster and more naturally.

Prices & Availability: The Kandao Meeting Pro is available now and costs £679 / €729.
