A court in Delhi on Thursday granted police a request to bring Mehrauli, who killed defendant Aaftab Amin Poonawala, to court via video conference.

Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla said according to the application filed by police, the accused had faced threats from rogue and religious groups.

“I’m aware of the sensitivity of the matter, the media coverage… the public traction…” the judge said while granting the motion.

Poonawala will be brought before the court via video conference at 4 p.m.

Poonawala, 28, is said to have strangled Shradha Walkar and sawed her body into 35 pieces, which he kept in a 300-litre refrigerator at his residence in South Delhi in Mehrauli for almost three weeks before taking her in several days after midnight dropped all over town .

Police said the couple had frequent arguments over financial issues and it is believed there was also a fight between them which resulted in Poonawala killing 27-year-old Walkar on the evening of May 18.
