“And these guys know I ain’t fucking going nowhere. Metallica is my fucking bed. Metallica is my home and there would be no point in leaving the band because if I did, people would remind me everyday of how I was the Metallica guitarist. I don’t want to get into a situation where I have to fight back.

“I always want to be seen as just another guy at Metallica trying to make the best music with these other three guys because that’s basically what we do. This is our calling. That’s what the damn universe wants from us. I’m thinking along those lines.”

Kirk Hammett explains what James Hetfield says about his solo album Portals

Back in his April 19 interview, Kirk Hammett had talked about his new album portal‘s sound, say it doesn’t sound like Metallica. He also mentioned his little chat with his bandmate James Hetfield. “Usually there are four of us when an album comes out. We’re all in a row,” Kirk said. “We all support each other because it’s a nerve-wracking thing emotionally and mentally. Usually during this time we have each other to talk to about any kind of insecurities or whatever.

“But now that I’ve got a solo album out, I’m the one who’s carrying the whole burden of it all. I said yes James, ‘That’s strange. I have an album release and I usually have three other guys. But it’s just me and it makes me insecure and nervous.’ and James only had one answer, “This is a growth and learning experience for you, brother.” And I’m like, ‘Thanks for saying that, because I didn’t see it that way.'”
