Do you want to brighten up your home now that spring is here? We also! That’s why we turned to Ashley Grubb, a local interior designer and agent at LAH Real Estate. She gave us some simple and easy tips that will bring new life to your living space this season – read on to find out more!
Meet Ashley Grubb, interior designer
From a young age, Ashley Grubb knew her heart was in design.
“My mom used to joke that my barbies lived better than we did. And that’s because I would take my Barbie houses to the next level. I had my dad cut small pieces of rug to fit the house and I even used marbled contact paper around a piece of wood to make my barbies a fancy marble coffee table. I could always imagine how a room could look better, so that’s how I started doing it!”
As a teenager, Ashley was constantly decorating and decorating both her bedroom and her friends’ bedrooms. Naturally, she decided to study interior design in college and ended up working in advertising design for a well-known Fortune 500 company. After marrying her husband Charlie and having three children – Macy, Camden and Everly – Ashley decided to retire from her career to focus on raising her family.
Now that her children are older, Ashley has returned to professional work – this time as a real estate agent with LAH Real Estate. As an interior designer and Real estate agent Ashley Grubb can’t just help her clients find their dream home – she can help them design it exactly how they want it.
Here are some tips from Ashley on how to spruce up your home this spring!
Simple tips from Ashley Grubb
“The first thing to keep in mind is that you don’t have to go out and spend $10,000 on new living room furniture to transform your home. Most of the changes I make, both to my own home and clients’, are cheap and easy!”
When it comes to cheap and easy, green never goes out of style. Ashley likes to use succulents because they look good and are relatively easy to keep alive. But real live plants aren’t the only way to use greenery in your home.
“I love using floral designs to decorate, especially in spring. A beautiful piece of floral art is a great way to bring spring life into your home. You can even use stems, flowers or even branches in vases to bring in some of that color.”
Speaking of color, Ashley strongly recommends bright colors for your living space.
“I always encourage people to forgo dark window treatments and go for something light and bright. Personally, I like plain white panels, but if you want color, you can certainly use pastels. The same applies to cushions and carpets. I love the look of layered rugs – you use a larger neutral rug underneath and then put another rug on top with a print – it looks really good and makes the colors pop!”
So what’s hot this year?
“I hear that question all the time! I personally think gray is being phased out for design reasons. In my own home and in the homes that I stage, I tend towards more neutral colors – for example off-white, linen and soft green. I even have a paint color that I frequently recommend to clients – Sherwin Williams’ Aesthetic White. I don’t think this color is going to feel dated any time soon.”
