Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Restaurant Takes Over Swell Taco Location in Patchogue

Queens Restaurateur chose the village for its second location.

After Swell Taco closed its doors last year, the owner of a Mexican restaurant in Queens called Ruta Oaxaca decided to fill the gap. Corresponding a story in GreaterLongIslandTacos are still on the menu for those missing thresholds.

Those Taco included their Cochinita Pibil with Yucatan Marinated Slow Cooked Pork, Avocado Salsa Verde, Habanero Pickled Red Onions and Cilantro ($21.95), Crispy Shrimp Taco Marinated with Guajillo and Manzano Chili Aioli, Queso Fresco and Coleslaw ($22.95) and a Grilled includes chicken taco with jalapeno marinated chicken, queso asado, chili de arbol salsa, pickled red onions and cilantro ($21.95).

But this is much more than a taco joint.

They also serve enchiladas like their verdes, chicken, Swiss-style tomatillo cream salsa, melted chihuahua cheese, pickled red onions and cilantro ($23.95), and mole mit Chicken, Oaxacan Mole, Queso Fresco, Platano Macho Puree, Crema, Onions and Cilantro ($24.95).

Appetizers include a Pechuga & Mole Verde with Mole Verde, Green Zucchini, Beregena, Ayocotes and Roasted Pumpkin Seeds ($23.95), Costilla Istmenas, Slow Cooked Baby Back Ribs, Guava Chipotle Glaze, Cherry Tomatoes and Fennel Salad ($28.95 ). and Steak Oaxaqueno, a grilled New York strip steak, Mole Coloradito, melted Chihuahua cheese, sweet plantains, nopales lettuce, queso fresco and cilantro ($32.95).

“What a wonderful experience on the Ruta Oaxaca,” she wrote. “Upon entering you are greeted by a warm atmosphere. They did a great job remodeling the restaurant.”

She loved the margaritas and there was only one downside.

“My only regret was that I was so full I couldn’t eat anymore lol,” she wrote. “It’s okay though because I’ll be back later in the week. The restaurant is truly a gem for quality food, experience and lovely staff. Run, don’t walk.”
