Welcome to At Home with T&C, a monthly summary of the new design and home decor items that our style and interiors writer is now happy to share (and buy!) with you.

While my focus is usually on staying indoors, this month is all about getting outside — at least into your backyard. A benefit of the past few years is that I appreciate our outdoor spaces more than ever, be it a lawn, patio, deck, porch, or even a city balcony. And now that the sun is out a little longer and the evenings are a little warmer, it’s time to invest in some decor to turn your backyard into an outdoor space for al fresco happy hour cocktails and fresh yoga and early morning coffee close. The rules really aren’t that different from indoor decorating: invest in some plants, don’t forget mood lighting (a big candle never hurts), and have plenty of comfortable seating to encourage socializing. Now you have no excuse not to invite people to garden parties, impromptu BBQs, or even splashing about in an inflatable pool. Below I’ve curated 20 backyard decor options for large and small outdoor spaces.

Is this the fanciest citronella candle out there? We won’t find out because we’re too obsessed with trying anything else. Diptyque’s freshly scented citronella repels mosquitoes and adds the most delightful scent.

Sitting outside with an iced glass is a summer treat – and that goes double for these pretty floral Murano glasses.

Yes, watering plants can be a hassle, but less so when you have a sleek watering can that doesn’t need to be stored away.

An outdoor rug goes a long way in making your outdoor space feel like an inviting space. Not only is this water and mildew resistant, but it can be thrown in the washing machine for easy care.

This is no ordinary inflatable pool: the design was inspired by Venetian palaces. It’s the perfect way to add some summer fun to your garden without sacrificing style.

19

Aquila standard hammock stand

A hammock is the most inviting garden accessory to tuck away in a free corner or alcove. If your trees aren’t perfectly spaced for lounging, a simple hammock stand will do the job just as well.

The best garden decoration of all? As many plants as possible. Try a flowering Mandevilla to cover an unsightly fence or lackluster trellis.
